Memories With Energy
This was the April writing contest. The prompt is below, and the winners are here and here. They each received a copy of The Playful Way to Serious Writing by Roberta Allen. Roberta's book is full of visual as well as verbal prompts. She gets you writing from photos, sounds, and lists, as well as scribble drawings you create. She also has activities you do that you write about. My opinion of this book is that it is fun-fun-fun! The key to bountiful, powerful writing is that you pick a topic with a lot of 'energy' to it. One of Roberta's definitions of energy is 'the spark that ignites when you connect with a place, a creature, a beautiful tree, a sunset, a work of art, a symphony, another human being.' Keep that in mind when you are writing your contest entry. Here's the prompt: Think of five events from the past, positive or negative, that moved you intensely. These events had great energy at the time. Pick the one with the most energy, the one that is most alive for you now. Write about it for fifteen minutes.
Remember - Don't edit! Send your freewriting! Good luck and have fun! * |
