The Prompt

I once read, and agree, that spirituality is a deep understanding of the natural world.  The LifeJournal prompts are:

How--and how often--do you stay in touch with the natural environment?

Where do you feel more spiritually connected -- in a house of worship or in nature? Why?

*

January's response

I feel more spiritually connected in a setting of nature as opposed to a house of worship. It has always been difficult for me to feel God behind walls of plaster adorned by fake plants.

I know He is everywhere, though I hardly think He could be contained behind the walls that we have built for our own comfort and convenience.

I usually go outside, find a rock, a stump, or a
climbing tree. With my favorite Dodgers baseball cap upon my head, I start a conversation with God. "So here I am, God. My holey jeans, baseball cap, and yet another one of your beautiful days . . .

In nature, I am the real me--no painted mask that has to impress a gathered assembly. Just me, and God, and a few minor league assistants he sends in at half-time for laughs--usually a floating family of bickering ducks.

*

I chose this, because of her show-don't-tell style.  The tie to baseball was also a creative twist.

Thanks to all who entered.  I enjoy reading your work, and it was a tough call on the winner.  I often wish I had multiple prizes to give away, because you all deserve recognition.
