Goal Setting
by Dan Gauthier

Here is how I focus on and achieve my goals.  If you apply this information to your daily life, it will work. I am a International speaker, and my seminars and workshops consist of goal setting. I was fortunate enough to meet my mentor at an early age, and he has given me the best advice that money can buy. I have tried many goal setting techniques, but this is the one that has worked for me and thousands of people that have used this approach.

Write each of your goals on a piece of paper.  Then choose one to focus on.

On a separate piece of paper, write why you must achieve that goal.  Add a lot of emotion to your writing. Emotions move people to take action.  Be very specific when you write why you must achieve this goal.  Associate a lot of pleasure to achieving your goal.

Next, write what will happen if you do not achieve these goals.  Associate a lot of pain to not achieving your goal.  The more pain you associate with not doing anything about moving towards your goal, the more action you will take on a daily basis.

This might sound harsh, but it works! It's call neuro association conditioning.

These are examples of my goals:

1) education - get my PHD

2) own a chalet at Mont Tremblant

3) maintain my health

If I do not take good care of my health, I see myself dead, and my daughters and son are at my funeral.

The positive side of health could be, I am 40 years old, feel like 30, look like 30, and I have more energy now than I ever had. I am more focused and in control of my life. I will live a long healthy life, which means more time to spend with the ones I love the most.

By putting the positive and negative of my goal in writing, I can set my sights on the positive.

READ YOUR GOALS EVERY DAY, THE PLEASURE AND THE PAIN.

Also say this to yourself every morning when you get up:

IF IT'S GOING TO BE, IT'S UP TO ME!

Give your goals a date.  It doesn't matter how long; 1, 2, 3 years, but do it. Your outcome will allow you to be in control of your life.
