I have not updated this page in a really long time. There are so many new books always coming out that I can not keep up with them! I am rebuilding this page to offer new inspiration, but in the meantime, please click for books about journaling or books about self help. I also have books listed in some of my essays that are relevant to the topic of the essay, so if you poke around the site, you will find more beneficial information.

There is an excellent Personal Growth section at:

C. Hope Clark, from Funds for Writers, has a series of ebooks of markets for all kinds of writers. There are markets for essayists, poets and fiction writers, as well as information about contests and the writing life. I have purchased several of these for my own use, so I can vouch for how helpful they are if you want to sell your writing. You can view and purchase them here:

 Books:
Fatherless Women: How We Change After We Lose Our Dads
The grief process for women, when our dads pass away.

Journaling for Joy, the Workbook
Joyce Chapman's journaling workbook poses thought provoking questions and gives you space to write in.

Fatherloss : How Sons of All Ages Come to Terms With the Deaths of Their Dads
The only thing the title of Neil Chethik's book does not say is that he compares how men and women grieve this significant loss. Fascinating.

A Woman's Notebook
A brand new edition of an old favorite. Blank pages and "provocative, insightful, and inspiring quotations and illustrations on the interior". I received one as a gift back in 1982!

Love, Greg & Lauren
Greg's account of Lauren's recovery from severe burns she received in the WTC attack of 9/11.

How to Keep a Spiritual Journal
Ron Klug's expanded edition of one of the most thorough books on how to keep a journal, with a Christian slant.

Visual Journaling : Going Deeper Than Words
Discover journaling through artwork. Highly recommended!

A Writer's Book of Days
With monthly guidelines and daily prompts, Judy Reeves gets you writing every day.

A Woman's Journal
Blank pages with quotes by women.

The New Diary
Tristine Rainer's basic, yet deep, journaling book. Preface by Anais Nin.

The New Beacon Book of Quotations by Women
One of my favorite resources for quotes!

Simple Abundance
This is a wonderful book to start your new year! Daily essays and inspiration, and the birthplace of the gratitude journal.

The Art of Happiness... A handbook for living
The Dali Lama discusses happiness, intimacy, compassion and creating change, with Howard Cutler.

Emotional Intelligence
Daniel Goleman's best seller about knowing and managing our emotions. Highly recommended!

Writing Down the Bones
Natalie Goldberg's famous book full of insightful exercises for all writers. My favorite!

The Invitation
Oriah Mountain Dreamer's famous poem and the story behind it. Very inspirational reading...

Idea Catcher
Prompts for creative writing, but praised by Eldonna Bouton as great inspiration for journalers.
The Verbally Abusive Relationship
Verbal abuse is as damaging as physical abuse. This book shows you how to recognize it in current or past relationships. I highly recommend this book!

Dreams
Dreams and their meanings by Jungian, Marie-Louise von Franz. Look into The Way of the Dream, also by von Franz, for more insight.

Journal to the Self
Kathleen Adams' well-known book, full of suggestions for all levels of journaling. Highly recommended - a must have!

The Tao of Women
A very special book for everyone, but especially empowering for women.

The Way of the Dream
Marie-Louise von Franz talks about Jungian dream interpretation.
