The Joy of Christmas
by
Ellie Fischer, age 12
Inside the star, yes, like
the one on the top of your tree, there happened a story you only have
to hear to understand. On the highest tip of the star lived four ducks,
Harry, Gary, Larry and Terri. Harry, Gary and Larry were all 8-year-old
boys. Terri was their mother.
Twas the day before Christmas and the three boys couldn't sit still. They
loved Christmas, they only loved one thing about it, the presents. They
hated seeing family, eating and everything else. The next morning came
after what seemed was an eternity. They got everything they wanted.
Then, 358 days later, a week before Christmas, Terri sat the boys down.
She had begun to worry about the boys. She said to them, "I know you love
Christmas, but it is not all about the presents. It is more about being
with family, having wishes and making them come true." Did that have any
affect on the boys? No way.
A week later from that night, or on Christmas night, they sat on the windowsill
and looked up at the biggest star in the sky. At the same time, they all
wished with all their hearts on that star. They all said at the same time,
"We wish it was Christmas every day."
When they woke up on December 26, as so they thought it was, they looked
at the calendar and saw that it was again Christmas day. They ran downstairs
to see presents all around the tree for them. Their mother opened a closet
door, which held three sleighs, one for each boy. For a week all of this
went on. After that the boys began to get bored. They didn't get surprised
anymore every day.
One night, Harry woke up to see Larry sitting on the windowsill with Gary.
He asked what they were doing. They responded with, "We're thinking."
Harry joined them. After a while they decided to reverse the wish. At
the same time again, they wished with all their hearts on the biggest
star in the sky. They said all together, "We wish Christmas came only
once a year."
They woke up the next morning to see that it was January 2. They realized
that the joy of Christmas come only once a year. What did I tell you?
All you have to do is hear it to understand it. Just a reminder: Be careful
what you wish for.
